🎹 It’s a wrap! Spring Piano Recitals #1-#3 were a hit. I wrote on the cue card: “praise the wonderful program”, and it truly felt like one. My dream team, @_ariqiaaa_ and @audrey_jianggg make it feel effortless, elevate the artistry, and serve each and every student with such heart and care. We were so proud to showcase our students in front of their families. Grateful to @faustharrisonpianos for hosting us and to @vivian_nguyen_tang for the elegant floral arrangement. The pink Labubu raffle? Total hit. 💖

How it started and how it’s going: The last time I played on the Cal State Fullerton Recital Hall stage, I did not know God, and I honestly couldn’t care less. Ironically, the last piece I played was Bolcom’s “Serpent’s Kiss” from the Garden of Eden, 2 pianos.

Last Friday, I returned to the stage, playing the exact same piano piece, but as a new creation! “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬ How fortunate am I to receive the free gift of salvation! I retold the story of Adam and Eve but with a new lens. The fog has been lifted and I see myself as a sinner, and everyone else who also sin around me. These words, “sin” and “sinner” used to turn me off- I would block out whenever people mentioned sin, Jesus, or amen. But I get it, I once was lost, but now am found. Was blind, but now I see (lyrics to Amazing Grace).

“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Before, I performed the Bolcom piece as a showy, virtuosic, and sadly, superficial one. Now, I see the depth in the music, and how it unveils Adam and Eve’s fall and how they disobeyed God, listened to their pride, and chose death.

“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬The moment I got saved, I felt tremendous and an insurmountable amount of joy. I felt like a weight has been lifted! I was confused and thought back to what did I eat that day. Little did I know, I was a new creation. I was born, again.

“Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So, what does this mean for you? If I can get saved, you can too. All you have to do is believe, and you’ll be made new! You’ll see through a new lens. You’ll also have the urgency to want every one of your friends and family to also know Jesus Christ. Talk to people about God, ask questions, and if you earnestly seek him with all of your heart, you’ll find him.

This song and the lyrics derived from scripture has gotten me through the worst times of my life, in the furthest depths of my despair. There, I only had God to rely on. I cling to words of scripture like life and death. I really hope this reaches even just one person, it would all be worth it. He gives us trials so we could help others through similar ones. // “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.”

Have you taken down your Christmas decorations yet? Today, January 6th, marks that day- 12 days after Christmas. This is a Christmas ornament I gave my piano student 10 years ago. She surprised me by showing me that she kept it after all these years!

10 years ago, my life circumstances had to change, and I had to suddenly leave behind all of my students in California to pursue my dreams of grad school across the country to South Carolina.

When I moved back, their family signed up for piano lessons again.

For Christmas this year, I made her a new ornament, not remembering that I made her one already a decade ago.

Me: “You still kept it after all these years?!”

Student: “What, throw away this baby? Never!”

Time flies, people may move and change, but loyalty and kindness last forever.

How fortunate I am today to call myself a piano teacher. It is beyond belief that I get to change lives daily, keep and maintain old relationships, and develop new ones!

“Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.”

These photos, and all my other photos, are solely taken by my mom. We take photos now, just because. No real purpose- except perhaps it’s our special time to bond and to create. She loves to create and she is the true content creator in this family. She is the biggest reason why I’m an artist today. Still today, she shapes me, yet I’m only a small fraction of her artistry. Everything is art to her: whether it’s a song, makeup, photography, or lyrics. Life is art and can be caught or lost in a blink of an eye. #myforevervalentine #goldenhours @vince
